It's that time again where we take a little bit of time to recognize and highlight some of the very best new game releases made with GameMaker: Studio!
The end of March saw the long anticipated release of Heart Machine's Hyper Light Drifter! Here at YoYo we've been fans of Hyper Light Drifter long throughout its development and were very excited to get to play the final product. We were not disappointed and many of us have been struggling to put the game down as of late! Check out the release trailer below:
Hyper Light Drifter is a 2d action adventure inspired by old school classics with beautiful pixel art, super satisfying & challenging combat and an engaging narrative driven by communication through imagery.
A description of the game's driving vision from Alex Preston the founder of Heart Machine:
Visions for this game have been fluttering in my skull for ages; something dark and fantastic, with giant forests to navigate, huge floating structures to explore, deep crumbling ruins to loot, massive throngs of enemies to rend, and behemoths both flesh and mechanical to overcome. I want it all to be as beautiful as possible, forging color with the dark and eerie wastes and intimidating landscapes. It plays like the best parts of A Link to the Past and Diablo, evolved: lightning fast combat, more mobility, an array of tactical options, more numerous and intelligent enemies, and a larger world with a twisted past to do it all in.
Hyper Light Drifter really pushes up the bar and is an excellent showcase of what GameMaker can do. You can pick it up today for PC & Mac and the team are already working on console editions for PS4 and Xbox One due out in 2016.
